If you like your YA with good-looking fae boys and maternal and/or queenly fae
ladies, this book’s got some good things going for it. There’s also nice imagery
of secret steampunk-tinged fae parties held in forgotten corners of the London
Underground.Easy to follow, clean romance, with a love triangle twist. You find yourself
rooting for both the hero and the villain. Then wondering who is really the hero
and who is really the villain.
When Meghan Kelly, eighteen-years-old and backpacking across England, descends into the century-old stone tunnels of the Underground, she plans on a hot date at a secret nightclub. Instead, she finds herself imprisoned and in a fight for her very survival.
Kiernan has lived in the Underground nearly all his life. After his encounters with Meghan, he must choose between loyalty to his father or saving the human girl he yearns for. Not an easy decision when his people face extinction and Meghan might hold the key to saving them.
When Kiernan leaves England, he hopes to unlock the secrets that could save his people from extinction. But the path to answers is fraught with danger. Shortly after arriving in Costa Rica, Kiernan encounters the human girl that he spent months yearning for. Kiernan must decide between his love for Meghan and his budding loyalty to his brother, Avery. He tries to place his brother first, until faced with an impossible decision.
Kiernan needs to tap into magic to save his people. The only problem: unleashing his magic involves breaking his vow to his brother. What if the only way to help Avery is to choose Meghan?
As Meghan settles into life in the Seattle Underground, disabling attacks begin to plague her. Meghan had imagined she would spend her time underground reconnecting with Avery. Instead, she fights to remain conscious. After her illness threatens to reveal the Fae’s secrets, Avery and Meghan return to England to seek out a cure. Unknowingly suffering from the same affliction, Kiernan struggles to balance his desire for Meghan with his responsibility as leader of the Fae. When he learns of Meghan’s illness, Kiernan realizes their blood connection may hold dire consequences for his people. Kiernan may need to sacrifice himself to save everyone he loves.
